Campus History

Message from the Director

Tec de Monterrey, Saltillo Campus began operations in August 1974 in a rented house next to the Casino de Saltillo. From the start, it was supported by business leaders who formed the association Educación Superior de Coahuila, A.C. (ESCAC). The first facilities included three classrooms, a study room, cubicles, and administrative offices, serving 96 students under the leadership of Eng. Hevelio Villegas Aguilar.

In July 1975, the first campus-owned building was inaugurated. Under the direction of Eng. Joaquín Tena Figueroa, student identity was strengthened. Academic growth and infrastructure development were promoted, including degree programs like Accounting and Business Administration, and spaces such as audiovisual rooms.

In 1986, the high school curriculum and the general core program for Engineering began, led by Eng. Víctor Manuel Padilla Pereda, who also advanced the campus’s vision as a local educational option. That year, the academic units were renamed campuses, making Tec a multicampus system. In 1987, the Industrial and Systems Engineering programs were launched.

In 1988, Lic. Salvador Garza Boardman expanded the infrastructure: a second building, the Student Affairs building (1991), the Library (1992), and Classroom Building III (1997). He also promoted teacher training and the creation of the Extension Department. In 1990, Eng. Alfonso Pompa Padilla fostered comprehensive educational projects.

C.P. Leonel Ibarra Navarro (2001) continued the master plan, relocated offices, inaugurated the Auditorium (2002), and the Information and Technology Center. He was recognized for his human-centered leadership and administrative excellence. Later, Eng. Juan Manuel Ruiz Acosta continued developing Classroom Building IV, the Maintenance Workshop, new facilities, the soccer field (2005), the Administrative Services Center (2008), the cafeteria terrace (2009), and the cardio gym (2010). The parking area was also expanded.

In 2013, Lic. Angelberto Guardado Astorga modernized facilities, furniture, and laboratories. In 2018, Dr. Gilberto Tomás Armienta Trejo strengthened partnerships with the regional automotive industry.

In April 2022, Eng. Adrián Fernando González Zambrano became General Director, aiming to create memorable experiences for students and staff.

The commitment of its directors has shaped the Saltillo campus, blending adaptability, professional development, infrastructure, and efficient management to support continued growth.

At Tecnológico de Monterrey we seek to develop our community with leadership, innovation and entrepreneurship for human flourishing. At Campus Saltillo we are ready so that through our PrepaTec and the School of Engineering and Sciences, as well as the Business School, you can develop the best version of yourself.

This is the opportunity to start a new chapter in your story and you decide what to write in it.

Our campus and the team will present you with a series of high-value experiences that will lead you to develop skills beyond the academic aspect. There will be people who are motivated through leadership activities such as student groups, being part of a sports activity, participating through music, dance or acting in art and culture projects, in related professional stays and even traveling to another country on an academic exchange.

Each of these experiences will open your eyes to the national and global reality in which we live and how to focus your talent to make this a better world. It is up to you to choose how to develop the best experience according to your goals and dreams to fulfill.

I invite you to remember that each person is unique, with their own point of view and way of doing things; these differences complement us and open doors to create and design a better future for everyone. That is why at Campus Saltillo we are ready to support you in taking that path and transcending through you.
