Adrián Marenco Olavarrieta had arrived in Tuxtla Gutiérrez from Córdoba, Veracruz in 1977, to run a family business related to coffee, but since his arrival he realized the conditions and needs of education that the state of Chiapas had, so he began to share his idea with other local businessmen, with whom he had already made good friends, of having a particular institution of great prestige, as recalled by one of his best friends and also founding advisor of the university ITESM Campus Chiapas, José Pariente (2004):
[...] he had been a very brilliant student, he had studied two careers, Public Accounting and Business Administration, he was a professor at the Tec while still a student, which is a truly extraordinary case, he received a national award from the hands of the President of the Republic, a recognition […] with that particular characteristic that he has and being very young, he would have been about 24 years old, we started to become friends with him and from there a concern arose that the city was lacking an institution that could give an education to our young people who leave high school at a national level and then Adrian had a very good relationship and was well liked in the Tec and through that the idea began to see, where the first letter of intent was sent in 1978; At that time the structure of Tec was different, there was a Vice Rector of Foreign Units who was managed by Paco Abel Treviño to whom a letter was sent and they said.... these guys... it's a dream, isn't it? that's what they thought.
